Mike Barretta

Mike, owner of Weights For Women, has been in the industry for over twenty years and knows what works and what is a waste of time.

He started his career in weightlifting in 1980 by opening M&M gym, located in South Philadelphia where he helped train the Philadelphia Stars football team.

With all of his weight training experience and working with both men and women, he came up with the idea of starting a gym for women only. Weights For Women was established April 4, 1994 and has been a growing business from then on. Mike recognized that women want different results than men and that they also have a different biological makeup. He wanted to combine different training techniques that he had learned over the course of many years that produces results women primarily look for – to trim down and tone. His concept of weight training consisting of contraction but no movement based on alignment and time oriented breathing came from years of experience.

Mike's workout is a method of very intense training that pushes your body to fatigue in much less time than it would take doing ordinary strength or cardiovascular exercises. It incorporates strength building, flexibility and endurance simultaneously. It develops abdominal muscles through breathing and neutralizing one's spine, eliminating the need to do time wasting abdominal specific exercises. Our goal is to get people the results they want and one day, revolutionize the way people think about fitness!

The intensity of the workout can be adjusted, so this workout is suitable for both younger and older women, both beginners and more experienced exercisers. You can do the full workout, or you can ask to learn how to apply the principles to the workout you already do using the equipment in the gym.
